SecuX FAQ

General

What are the contents inside the retail box of a SecuX wallet?

Each retail box contains 1x SecuX wallet, 1x USB cable, 1x Pouch, 1x Getting started guide and 2 Recovery Sheets.

How can I know if my online order wallet has been unboxed by others?

The SecuX retail box and device are sealed with SecuX tamper-resistant labels. Before opening the box or using the device, please carefully check if the label is legible and that it is not broken or torn in any way.

My wallet has been stolen? (I lost my wallet!)

Anyone who obtains your wallet cannot access into your account unless they obtain the PIN code for your wallet. If an incorrect PIN code is entered 5 times, the device will reset and wipe the memory. You may enter your 24-word seed codes on a reset wallet, or if the worst should happen, a new wallet (a Bitcoin.org BIP32, BIP39, BIP44 protocol architecture wallet) to recover your account.

What if your company’s servers go down or the company is forced to close?

SecuX is a stable, growing company with a solid financial background. However, if any unexpected misfortune happens, you may use your 24-word seed codes on a 3rd party wallet (a Bitcoin.org BIP32, BIP39, BIP44 protocol architecture wallet) to recover your existing account and balance.

What is a security chip? Does it really matter?

The SecuX Crypto Hardware Wallets V20, W20, and W10 are equipped with an Infineon CC EAL+ Secure Element that is a dedicated chip for the storage of private keys and PINs.

During transactions or connections either via a USB cable or Bluetooth connection to host devices, the private keys are safely stored and protected from any possible attack by hackers. Some banking systems use a similar or lower-rated security chip to protect their data from online attacks.

By this definition, a SecuX wallet could be defined as a “vault-grade level” or “military level” security device to safeguard your digital assets at a superior level.

I saw a “Hidden Wallet” icon when I enter the wallet, what is it for and how does it work?

A Hidden Wallet is an unique feature of SecuX Crypto Hardware Wallets and it is the equivalent to a “secret pocket” hidden inside the wallet.

It is an alternative feature, and if you select “Create Hidden Wallet”, you will have to set another PIN (4~8 digits) and it must be different from your 1st PIN.  The wallet will request you to set a “Passphrase” (1~99 characters), then the Hidden Wallet is completed!  In other words, if you create a Hidden Wallet in your Crypto Hardware Wallet, you have 2 sets of private keys. The 1st private key manages your original wallet accounts with a 24-words seed code, and the 2nd private key manages your Hidden Wallet accounts with 24-word seed code plus the set passphrase.  Every time you power on the wallet, you can enter either the 1st PIN to access the original wallet or the 2nd PIN to directly access the Hidden Wallet.

Hardware

What are the IP ratings of SecuX Crypto Wallets?

Currently there is no water or dust proofing treatments available for SecuX wallets.  Please take good care of them during day-to-day use, storage and in transit.

What is the battery life of the V20 and the W20?

The V20 and the W20 are embedded with a 600mAh Li-Polymer battery. The device should last up to 7 hours “working” (engaging in transactions) and at least 3 months when idle on a full charge. The battery can be easily recharged by connecting the USB Type C port (V20) or USB Micro-B (W20) port to the USB port of a powered host device (desktop computer or laptop) or via a powered USB adapter. The battery cannot be replaced independently of the device for security reasons.

How long does it take to have a fully charged battery in a SecuX wallet?

It takes two hours to have a full charge.

When I use a USB cable connect to the host, I cannot find my named wallet, but the display shows an “unknown Nordic Device”. Is this normal? Where the connection to my wallet? Is my data safe?

If your wallet is the only wallet connecting to the host device, the listed “unknown Nordic Device” is your wallet.  The shown wallet name is defined from the Google web USB. Despite not being named correctly, the SecuX wallet is still functioning and your data is still safe.

What version of Bluetooth do SecuX wallets use?

SecuX wallets use Bluetooth 5.0 module and also support Low Energy 5.0.

How to use my iPhone/iPad on SecuX wallet through Bluetooth function?

The iPhone or iPad requires version iOS 9 or later. Please refer to the following steps for connection:

(2) Enable Bluetooth function on both SecuX wallet and iOS device.
(3) Activate SecuXcess APP and select SecuX Wallet to connect.

Is using the Bluetooth function safe during crypto transactions?

A SecuX wallet is equipped with an Infineon CC EAL5+ Secure Element chip that safely carries your PIN code and Private Key.  When the Bluetooth function is activated or running, the wallet connects to your host device. The MCU is the chip which is accessed by your host device for data transit. While this occurs, your private key for transaction signatures remains protected inside the security chip which is never accessed during this process and will not be susceptible to any attack from outside the wallet.

What is the security certification of SE (secure element) on SecuX wallets?

The Secure Element is rated CC EAL5+.  CC EAL5+ certification verifies that a product has been security-tested and held to a particular standard of protection; EAL5 is equivalent to semi-formally designed and tested while “+” implies one or more additions to the EAL base level rating.

How do I create my own account for any type of coins and tokens in my SecuX wallet?

The SecuX wallet uses a chrome-based web-wallet platform “SecuXcess” to transact Bitcoins and Altcoins (//wallet.secuxtech.com), and it supports 7 main coins and ERC-20 tokens (1,040+). SecuXcess lists the top 10 ERC-20 token for managing token accounts easily. Other ERC-20 Tokens can be customized on the SecuXcess website by users

Is my PIN secured enough on SecuX wallet?

When you set your PIN on SecuX wallet, it requires 4 to 8 digits to be entered as a PIN. Every time users enter or use the device, it requires this PIN code.  5 incorrect inputs of the security code will reset and wipe the device.  A dynamic keypad is implemented here to avoid accurately tracing fingerprints left on the screen in case it gets stolen or if someone nearby attempts to recognize and visually steal your PINs.

What does “Idle time to log out expired” mean?

If you set “Idle time to log-out” on Settings mode, you may choose a preferable amount of idle time to log-out of your device as a security feature on any SecuX wallet.  Any log-out actions will disconnect your wallet from a connected host device.  If you need more time for a transaction, please set a longer time to avoid any interruptions during your transaction.

How does the phrase (24 word in SecuX wallet) seed code work?

SecuX Crypto hardware wallet uses a Hierarchical Deterministic Wallet Architecture and is compliant with BIP32, BIP39 and BIP44 Protocol.  Once you initiate the device, it will generate a 24-word seed phrase that should only be written on a recovery sheet and kept in a very safe place.  The architecture is based on BIP32, BIP39 and BIP44 protocol so that users can swap from any brand of hardware wallets that is made with the same architecture.  In this way, even if our company somehow no longer exists on the market, users are able to recover their data and load it onto a new hardware wallet with their 24-word seed phrases with no worries.

What should I do if I forgot my PIN?

Find your recovery sheet. You need to recover your account on the device with a 24 word phrase.  Input the wrong or incorrect PIN 5 times on the device and it will reset the device.  Choose “Recover from an existing account” then enter the 24 words in the order they are written.

Why is my wallet always “logged out” all the time?

Please check the “settings” mode to see how long you set the “idle time to power off” and the “idle time to log-out” and make sure that you have given yourself enough time.  As a security feature on SecuX wallet, the default time-frame on the “idle time to power-off” is 30 minutes, while the “idle time to log-out” is 10 minutes.  Please note that log-out will disconnect your wallet from a connected host device.  If you need more time for a transaction, please set a longer time-frame to avoid any interruptions during your transactions.

What are the differences between “Idle time to Power off” and “Idle time to Log-out”?

SecuX wallet defaults to a 10 minute timer to log-out of the account. When this occurs, the connection is discontinued as well.  You will have to re-enter the PIN (screen is on) to access to the account as a security design.  The device will automatically power off after 30 minutes at idle. 30 minutes is the time-frame as a default for “Idle to Power off” as a power-saving design.
